Survival Tips for Middle School

The following suggestions may make the transition to middle school a little easier on students and their parents/guardians. Feel free to share this with students who are getting ready to make the move to middle school.

Be respectful.

Make an effort to treat others the way you would like to be treated. The utilization of please, thank you, yes sir, no madam, etc., will work wonders.

Practice SAVE – Students Against Violence Everywhere.

Work to help prevent violence in your school and community. Be a positive role model for others and involve yourself in community service, crime prevention efforts, and practice conflict management. (Find out more at www.nationalsave.org )

Get organized.

Middle School book bags are a sight to behold. Take the time to write down assignments, utilize that day planner, etc.

Be on time and fully prepared.

Just think how this would affect you life and your teachers! This will certainly improve your grades and your teacher’s attitude toward you!

Practice wellness.

This involves exercise, eating smart, avoiding drugs and alcohol, and getting the proper amount of rest. This will obviously improve your quality of life and longevity for later years.

Get involved!

Do things and be an interesting person. Join groups, have hobbies, be an active citizen.

Be responsible for your actions.

No excuses. Accept responsibility for things without looking for ways to avoid blame. We are all human and all people make mistakes!

Follow directions (the first time).

This would certainly help out at home and school. Simply pay close attention initially and record a few notes, if necessary.

Strive for excellence.

Always do your best! Why spend all that time and effort if you may have to do it over again. People will brag about you and the job that you have accomplished!

Keep hands, feet, and other objects to yourself.

This seems so simple, but it really can be a major problem. Respect others “space” and make every effort to have them respect yours.

Be cooperative and not disruptive.

Every student has the right to learn and every teacher has the right to teach. Do your part and help your teacher at every opportunity.
